Frequently Asked Questions
We know that not everyone has been to a scrap yard before. Not only that, every scrap yard is unique and may do things a little differently. Below we have listed the most frequently asked questions by our customers in an attempt to make your visit as smooth as possible. If you don't find your answer here, you can reach out to us by visiting our "Contact" page.

Where do I bring non-ferrous metals such as copper and brass?
Non-Ferrous metals are accepted at our front entrance on 18 Hill Place. There is street side parking available (Please do not park in driveway) and we have carts available for you to transport your metals from your vehicle to the scale inside. If you have more than 1 type of metal, please use multiple carts so that we may weigh them separately as each type of metal is valued differently. It's easiest to think of it this way, any metal that your magnet will not stick to will go to our front entrance.
Where do I bring ferrous metals such as steel or cast iron?
Ferrous metals are accepted at our rear entrance on Mcdermott Place, around the block from our front entrance on 18 Hill Place. Drive on to our scale to be weighed at which point you will wait for a signal from an employee. Due to the current price of steel, we have a 500 pound weight limit. What this means is, if the total weight of your scrap is under 500 pounds you will not get paid for it. However, you are more than welcome to drop off your scrap even if you don't meet our weight requirements. Remember, anything your magnet will stick to will go to our rear entrance.
How much is my scrap worth?
The price of scrap changes on a daily basis. Scrap yard managers have to constantly keep their eye on the market and adjust the prices accordingly. Here at Bergen Scrap Metal we offer competitive rates and we’re committed to giving our customers across Bergen County and beyond the fairest price.
Will I be able to see the weight of my scrap?
Of course you will! Our scales are state certified and your whole transaction from start to finish will be completely transparent. We also have a customer monitor that will display weights and prices of all your non-ferrous scrap you are selling to avoid any confusion.
Do you buy Aluminum Cans?
We do not buy Aluminum Cans. I suggest contacting your local municipality.
Do you have a Truck Scale?
Yes, our ferrous operation has a full size certified truck scale.
How can I tell if the battery I want to scrap is Lead Acid?
Look for the letters "PB" anywhere on the battery. That is the symbol for lead on the elemental chart.
